He also takes the reader into the cultural circles and courts of Europe from the 16th to the 18th century. Esotericism is at the heart of the story, and we meet alchemists and other alchemists along the way. The novel discusses the Roesler Franz family’s links with the Rosicrucians, the Freemasons, the Carbonari, the Dante Society, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the Jewish Kabbalah. Another interesting aspect is the analysis of symbols in art. Travel, meetings and the search for truth are some of the ingredients of the book “In the shadow of the pyramid of Caius Cestius”.

Bob has a past behind him that still weighs like a boulder, his marriage ended because of him. But this is not what characterises him most, because he is a CIA agent, a secret shared with a select few. He has a unique sixth sense, he has an intuitive mind, which is why he is good at what he does. A nocturnal dream awakens his curiosity, which leads him to investigate to discover what is hidden in what he intuits. He does this during his trip to Italy, which turns out to be very peculiar. During his holiday in Rome he meets Sarah, a mysterious and fascinating girl. The young woman, who has a doctorate in art, together with an English professor, an expert in esotericism, is learning more about the international connections between Italy and European countries during the 19th century. Bob, together with Sarah, sets out to track down Ettore Roesler Franz, a Roman painter who painted 120 watercolours in the Roma Sparita collection. There is something linking the events….. and a message that instils hope.
